Aptvirus
Aptivus is the clinical name for Tipranavir, a protease inhibitor used to slow the advance of serious viral diseases such as hepatitis and HIV. It was approved for use by the FDA on June 22, 2005 and is used in place of other inhibitors when the patient resists other drug combinations.
The creator of Aptivus, Boehringer Ingelheim, has received reports of brain bleeding and subsequent death by users of Aptivus. Of the 6,840 users of Aptivus, eight of those who suffered from brain bleeding died as a result. FDA investigations regarding Aptivus-related brain bleeding are ongoing.
